Summary JSMU senior associate professors raised concerns over Dr Nighat Shah’s reappointment, alleging PMDC directives were overlooked and promotions affected.
KARACHI (Web Desk) - Senior associate professors at Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) have expressed concerns over the reappointment of Dr Nighat Shah and written to the Sindh chief minister and other authorities.
Several affected professors of JSMU sent a letter to Sindh Chief Minister, Sindh Health Minister and the federal ombudsman, raising objections to the decision.
The letter stated that the second paragraph of a Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) notification issued on May 19 had allegedly been disregarded, affecting the promotions of six associate professors awaiting elevation to the next grade.
The professors further claimed that Dr Nighat Shah’s tenure had been extended in violation of clear directions issued by the PMDC.
Responding to the concerns, a spokesperson for the Sindh chief minister said Dr Nighat Shah was reappointed on a contractual basis following her retirement.
The spokesperson maintained that Dr Nighat Shah’s contractual appointment would not affect the seniority of other officers serving at the institution.
The spokesperson further said the contractual appointment had no connection with the seniority or promotion prospects of existing officers.
