Summary Results schedule for August remains unchanged despite postponement

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Cambridge International Education has postponed an AS Level Mathematics examination in Pakistan after reports emerged that the question paper had been circulated before the scheduled exam.

The decision comes amid growing concerns over examination security during the ongoing assessment season.

According to Cambridge authorities, the AS Level Mathematics Paper 32 (9709), originally scheduled for 12 May, was allegedly shared ahead of the examination time. As a precautionary measure, the organisation announced that the paper would no longer be conducted as planned and that a replacement examination would instead be arranged for students across Pakistan.

The examination body stated that the affected paper had been due to take place in Pakistan on Friday, 15 May. Cambridge said a revised examination date would be confirmed by Friday, 22 May, after consultations with stakeholders and the implementation of additional security arrangements.

Officials said the decision was taken to protect the fairness and integrity of the examination process. Cambridge added that detailed guidance regarding precautionary measures and revised arrangements would be provided to schools by 22 May.

Despite the postponement, the organisation confirmed that the release date for Cambridge International AS and A Level results would remain unchanged. Students are still expected to receive their results on 11 August.

The development has sparked concern among students and parents already dealing with the pressure of the examination season. Cambridge acknowledged that the situation surrounding reported paper leaks this year had become highly unusual.

Country Director Uzma Yousuf said the nature of the reported paper theft incidents during the current examination cycle was unprecedented. She stated that certain elements appeared determined to undermine the examination system and damage students’ academic futures.

She added that Cambridge was pursuing multiple legal avenues to identify, stop and punish those responsible for compromising examination security.

The issue of leaked examination papers has repeatedly raised concerns among students, educational institutions and authorities in Pakistan, particularly during international examination sessions. Educational experts have often warned that such incidents not only affect student confidence but can also place additional emotional and academic pressure on candidates preparing under strict timelines.

Cambridge International Education conducts examinations for thousands of students across Pakistan each year through affiliated schools and examination centres. The organisation oversees O Level, IGCSE, AS and A Level qualifications that are widely recognised by universities and employers around the world.

The latest decision to postpone the Mathematics paper is expected to affect a large number of AS Level candidates nationwide, many of whom had already completed preparations for the scheduled examination date. Schools and examination centres are now awaiting further instructions from Cambridge regarding revised timetables, updated security protocols and administrative procedures for the replacement paper.

Cambridge said it remains committed to maintaining the integrity, fairness and credibility of its international examinations system while ensuring that students are not unfairly disadvantaged by the incident.
