Summary Pakistan Navy rescues seven crew members, including Indian and Indonesian nationals, after MV Gautam suffered a technical failure in the Arabian Sea.
RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Pakistan Navy on Tuesday conducted a swift humanitarian rescue operation in the Arabian Sea after responding to a distress call from the offshore vessel MV GAUTAM, which had suffered a critical technical failure while travelling from Oman to India.
According to a statement issued by the Navy’s media wing, the vessel was carrying seven crew members, including Indian and Indonesian nationals, when it became stranded at sea due to a severe mechanical fault. The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Mumbai issued the distress alert after the vessel lost operational capability in open waters.
Following the emergency call, Pakistan Navy immediately launched a coordinated response in line with its maritime safety obligations. PMSA Ship KASHMIR was deployed to the location to assist the stranded vessel and ensure the safety of the crew.
On arrival, naval personnel provided food supplies, medical assistance, and technical support aimed at restoring essential onboard systems. The intervention helped stabilise conditions on board MV GAUTAM and ensured the safety and wellbeing of all seven crew members, including Indian and Indonesian nationals.

The DGPR Navy said the operation reflects Pakistan Navy’s commitment to humanitarian responsibilities at sea and its readiness to respond to emergencies across regional maritime routes, regardless of nationality.
The vessel had been rendered immobile mid-voyage after experiencing a critical technical failure, leaving it adrift on a busy international shipping route in the Arabian Sea.
Pakistan Navy has carried out several similar rescue missions in recent years, responding to distress calls involving merchant vessels and fishing boats across regional waters as part of its maritime safety mandate.
In April, Pakistan Navy rescued 18 crew members of a merchant vessel in the North Arabian Sea after it issued a distress signal. That operation involved PNS HUNAIN, which conducted search and rescue efforts approximately 200 nautical miles off the Pakistani coast.
During that mission, naval teams provided medical aid, firefighting support, and damage assessment before safely evacuating crew members of multiple nationalities, including Indian and Indonesian nationals among others, for further medical care and repatriation.
