ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Khurram Daud and Muhammad Zeeshan Ali, two Pakistani astronauts formally selected for training under China’s manned space programme.

The meeting was attended by key officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, along with other senior government representatives and the chairman of Pakistan’s space agency.

China’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong, was also present on the occasion.

During the meeting, the prime minister congratulated the astronauts and said their selection for a space research mission reflects Pakistan’s growing capabilities in science and technology. He termed the mission a moment of pride for the nation and expressed confidence that it would mark a new chapter in the country’s space journey.

He further noted that the collaboration with China in the field of space exploration would strengthen bilateral relations and open new avenues for scientific progress.

The Chinese ambassador welcomed Pakistan’s efforts in space research and appreciated the deepening cooperation between the two countries in this field.

The selection of Pakistani astronauts follows a formal agreement signed in Islamabad in February 2025 between the China Manned Space Agency and Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission. The agreement laid the groundwork for joint efforts in astronaut selection, training, and participation in future missions.
