ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Former foreign minister Khurram Dastgir has said Pakistan has played the role of mediator between Iran and the US with good intentions, and slogans of ‘Long live Pakistan’ are being chanted in the streets of Iran.

Speaking to the media here on Saturday, Khurram Dastgir said Pakistan adopted a principled stance and today Pakistan is being looked up to all over the world.

Khurram Dastgir said that both sides did not trust any other country in the world, but they trusted Pakistan.

He said 70,000 Palestinians were martyred in Gaza, China is also standing behind Pakistan in bringing Iran to the ceasefire table, and ‘we expect positive progress from the negotiations’.

The former minister said the whole world was affected by the war, the eyes of the whole world are currently on Islamabad, and the guarantee from Iran is a valid demand.

Khurram Dastgir said economic issues will be resolved first, then defence issues, a framework will be decided after the negotiations, and the priority of the entire world at this time is to open the Strait of Hormuz.

Khurram Dastgir said opening the Strait of Hormuz and lifting economic sanctions will silence even the hardliners, and immediate steps can be taken on economic issues.
