Iran ready to reach a deal if US offers genuine agreement: Ghalibaf

Summary Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqher Ghalibaf said that in the past, promises made during negotiations with the United States were not kept.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqher Ghalibaf on Saturday said that Iran was ready to reach a deal if Washington offered what he described as a genuine agreement and granted Iran its rights.

Talking to media soon after his arrival in Islamabad, Baqher Ghalibaf claimed Iran had goodwill toward negotiations but no trust in the United States.

He said that in the past, promises made during negotiations with the United States were not kept. He added that they have come for talks with hopeful expectations. He said that we are ready to reach an agreement if US recognizes Iran’s rights.

Earlier, Iranian delegation led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqher Ghalibaf has arrived in Islamabad in the wee hours of Saturday for peace talks with the United States.

The delegation includes senior political, military and economic officials, including the Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, defense council secretary, central bank governor and several members of parliament.

According to the Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson, the Iranian delegation was received by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi were also present on the occasion.
