KARACHI (Dunya News) - Shocking revelations have emerged during the investigation by the judicial commission into Karachi’s Gul Plaza tragedy, Dunya News reported on Tuesday.
A meeting of the judicial commission on the Gul Plaza tragedy was held on Tuesday, during which it was revealed that electrical inspections of buildings in Karachi have been banned since 2003. The Electric Inspector presented the relevant notification before the commission.
Electric Inspector Pervez Ahmed stated that the Department of Irrigation and Energy had barred them from conducting inspections.
The commission asked when the last inspection of Gul Plaza had taken place. The Electric Inspector expressed ignorance, stating that he had been appointed only six months ago and did not know when the previous inspection was carried out.
Meanwhile, the Director General of Rescue 1122 said that Rescue 1122 has been working with limited resources in backup support with KMC. He added that Rescue 1122 received information about the incident with a delay of 20 to 25 minutes.
He further stated that Rescue 1122 does not have a snorkel, aerial ladder, or excavator. Due to the lack of heavy machinery, a critical opportunity to rescue people was lost.
