KARACHI (Web Desk) – Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) on Saturday announced staging protests at 10 locations in the City on Sunday (today), after police detained its over 10 activists.

Karachi JI Ameer Monem Zafar on Saturday announced that protests would be held at 10 locations across Karachi on Sunday (today) after police used force to stop party workers from staging a sit-in outside the Sindh Assembly.

The religio-political party had announced a protest outside the provincial legislature under its "Jeenay Do Karachi Ko" (Let Karachi Live) campaign, demanding urgent measures to address the city’s damaged roads, drainage problems, and issues in the local body system.

Zafar's statement came after police officials fired teargas shells and resorted to baton charge to disperse the JI workers as they attempted to march towards the Sindh Assembly to stage a sit-in over Karachi's civic issues and local body system.

Addressing a press conference, Zafar said that the protest had been announced to demand Karachi's rights, describing the police action as the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party's (PPP) "fascist behaviour" in the city.

He added that peaceful citizens were subjected to injustice and censured the administration for arresting several JI workers and firing teargas shells during the demonstration.

He called on the provincial authorities to explain why Karachi had been turned into what he termed a "no-go area".

Later, the JI leader announced plans to hold sit-ins at 10 locations across Karachi tomorrow and instructed party workers to disperse for now.

Earlier, Police in Sindh capital used tear gas and batons to disperse a protest march organised by Jamaat-e-Islami after negotiations between officials and party representatives failed, according to reports.

The confrontation took place in Karachi when party workers began moving towards the Sindh Assembly following unsuccessful initial talks with police authorities. Protesters continued their advance after discussions produced no agreement, prompting police to launch a crackdown aimed at stopping the march from reaching the assembly premises.

Police units carried out baton charges and fired tear gas shells as marchers pushed forward. Authorities had already implemented a security plan ahead of the rally, placing police mobiles and buses across key roads to block access routes. Special barricades were erected on Court Road and Numaish Road to halt the procession and restrict movement toward the assembly zone.
