LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Basant preparations in Lahore are in full swing with enthusiasts visiting markets to purchase kites and kite strings of their choice amid soaring prices of kite-flying materials.

With the surge of customers, the prices of kites and string soared as the Lahore district administration has decided not to fix rates for kites and strings. Shopkeepers have started charging prices of their own choosing.

According to sources, one tawa gadda [medium size kite] is being sold for Rs300 to Rs400, while a one-and-a-half tawa gadda [large kite] is available for Rs500 to Rs600 rupees. Even small kites have become expensive, with prices ranging from Rs200 to Rs300.

A spool [pinna] of two-piece string is being sold for Rs10,000 to Rs12,000, while a one-piece string spool is available for Rs4,500 to Rs5,000. Citizens have demanded that the government fix official prices for kites and string.

Meanwhile, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari said that citizens should show responsibility during Basant. She stated that kites worth Rs340 million have been sold in Lahore. Complaints are being received regarding kite prices, and efforts are being made to meet demand and supply.
