LAHORE (Dunya News) – The bodies of a woman and her daughter who fell into a drain near the shrine of Hazarat Data Gank Bakhsh in Bhati Gate area here have been recovered on Thursday.
The body of the 24-year-old woman was found about three kilometres away on Outfall Road, while the 10-month-old baby was recovered near Saggian after 17 hours.
Earlier, DIG (Operations) Faisal Kamran said that the unfortunate incident was reported and a call was received on 1122. After reviewing the call, a full investigation into the incident was carried out. After the woman’s body was found, all relevant institutions were working together to search for the baby.
He stated that CCTV footage confirmed the statement by the woman’s husband.
The family had left the shrine when the accident occurred, and Safe City authorities have retrieved all the relevant footage, he added.
INQUIRY COMMITTEE FORMED
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has formed an inquiry committee headed by the Additional Chief Secretary, which will present its report within 24 hours.
On the chief minister’s instructions, TEPA Director Shabbir Hussain, Project Director Zahid Abbas and Deputy Director Shabbir Ahmed have been suspended.
Before the woman’s body was recovered, rescue sources stated that it was technically impossible for a human to drown in the sewer hole where it was claimed that two people had earlier fallen in. The location identified is the Bird Market near the shrine, where the administration had carried out excavation work.
Rescue sources said that it was dark in the area at the time of the incident. Rescue 1122’s specialized teams and divers reached the scene within minutes, while the Lahore administration stated that after inspecting the sewer line, it was determined that no accident had occurred there.
In the meanwhile, the missing woman’s father had given a statement to the police claiming that his daughter had been murdered. Following this statement, police arrested three individuals, including the woman’s husband, who were later released.
The affected family, who had gone out for a walk, reached the shrine after visiting Minar-e-Pakistan. The woman sat on the edge of an open drain with her daughter in her lap, from where both fell into it.
