ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Winter conditions have intensified across the country as rain and snowfall continue in several parts of Balochistan, while Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) are also expected to receive rainfall, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The PMD reported that rain has been ongoing since last night in multiple areas of Balochistan. Ziarat, Kan Mehtarzai, Muslim Bagh, Toba Kakari, and Toba Achakzai are experiencing snowfall along with rain. As a result, temperatures have dropped sharply in Quetta and surrounding areas, falling below freezing. Quetta recorded a temperature of minus 1°C, while Kordk Top and Khwaja Imran reported minus 3°C.
The National Highway Authority (NHA) and Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) are actively clearing snow from highways in northern regions to keep roads open.
In Lahore, the weather remains partly cloudy. The PMD has forecast intermittent rain today and tomorrow, which is likely to further lower temperatures. Similarly, Rawalpindi and Islamabad are experiencing overcast conditions, with chances of rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms in the twin cities today.
In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, cloudy weather has prevailed across most areas, with light snowfall reported on higher mountains and increased cold conditions in lower regions.
Most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are also expected to receive rain over the next 24 hours. Rain is forecast in Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Chitral, Swat, and Buner. The PMD said Batagram, Dir, Kohistan, Abbottabad, and Haripur may also receive rain, while Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Hangu, Kohat, Mohmand, Khyber, and North and South Waziristan are likely to experience wet weather. Snowfall is expected in upper mountainous areas, raising concerns about landslides and flooding in streams.
Meanwhile, Karachi may also experience intermittent rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms. The PMD said rainfall could be of moderate intensity. Over the next 24 hours, the city is expected to remain partly cloudy, with a noticeable drop in temperatures from Friday. Karachi’s minimum temperature is expected to hover around 7°C, while the maximum may reach up to 25°C.
