CM Maryam vows to protect journalists' rights

Maryam Nawaz emphasized ending violence against journalists, ensuring press freedom, protecting their rights, and maintaining Punjab as a safe place for media.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that violence and oppression against journalists who speak the truth must end.
In her message on the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, the chief minister stated that responsible freedom of the press is the foundation of democracy, and a strong democratic society requires independent journalism.
She said journalists are the guardians of social justice and the voice of the people. Those who expose injustice, cruelty, and falsehood are heroes. As chief minister, she is committed to protecting press freedom.
Maryam Nawaz added that the government is taking several steps to safeguard journalists’ rights and is determined to help homeless journalists achieve their dream of owning a home. She assured that her government stands with those who follow the path of truth and will protect their rights.
She further said the purpose of observing this day is to remember journalists who were killed or suffered for speaking the truth.
She affirmed that journalism and journalists are safe in Punjab, and by the grace of Allah Almighty, no incidents of murder or violence against them have occurred — nor will they.
