LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Ahsan Bhoon Independent Group has secured a clear majority by winning 45 seats in Lahore, according to unofficial results of the Punjab Bar Council elections.

According to the unofficial results of the Punjab Bar Council elections here on Saturday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidates won only 15 seats, while the counting of votes was underway for 15 seats.

The final results of the Punjab Bar Council elections will be announced on November 17. Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar congratulated the Independent Group.

In the battle, there was a close contest between the Ahsan Bhoon Group, which belongs to Independent Group, popularly known as Asma Jahangir Independent Group, and the Hamid Khan Professional Group for 75 seats in Lahore.

More than 132,000 lawyers exercised their right to vote in the election process across Punjab. There was a contest between 77 candidates on 16 seats in Lahore, in which more than 31,000 lawyers cast their votes.

A large number of lawyers, including Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, Ahsan Bhoon, Hamid Khan, Ashfaq Bhullar and Sardar Latif Khosa, exercised their right to vote.

For the polling for the Punjab Bar Council elections, 52 polling booths were set up within the High Court premises, where judicial officers of the judiciary performed their duties as presiding officers.

The polling began at 8:30am and ended at 5:30 pm. A one-hour break was also kept during the polling.
