LAHORE (Dunya News) – After Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has forecast 10th spell of monsoon from Saturday (tomorrow).
According to a PDMA spokesperson, heavy rainfall is expected in most districts of the Punjab from September 6 to 9, and citizens have been urged to take precautionary measures.
The spokesperson said that rain is expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Lahore, Gujrat, and Sialkot. Additionally, Narowal, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Okara, Sahiwal, Kasur, Jhang, Sargodha, and Mianwali are also likely to receive rainfall.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia stated that rain is also expected in southern Punjab regions, including Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, and Rajanpur, with a risk of flash flooding in Dera Ghazi Khan from September 7 to 9.
There is concern about floods in the Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers, and a risk of urban flooding due to overflowing drains and streams in major cities. PDMA has issued instructions for all commissioners, deputy commissioners, and other administrative officials across the province to remain on high alert.
Departments, including health, irrigation, communication & works, local government, and livestock, have also been alerted to ensure timely response to any emergency.
DG Kathia has appealed to the public to take safety precautions during bad weather, avoid going near rivers and streams, stay in safe places during storms, and refrain from unnecessary travel.
