SACRAMENTO (Web Desk) – The California State Senate has unanimously passed a historic resolution recognizing the contributions of the Pakistani-American community in promoting Pakistan-U.S. relations and enhancing the economy, society, and culture of the state of California.
The resolution was presented by Senator Melissa Hurtado, who wore traditional Pakistani attire and applied henna as she entered the California Senate chamber to present it.
Senator Melissa Hurtado is the youngest elected female member of the California Senate and serves as the Chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture. The resolution she presented highlights the longstanding and multifaceted relations between Pakistan and the United States and acknowledges the significant role of Pakistani-Americans in the development of California, the world’s fourth-largest economy.
While presenting the historic resolution, Senator Hurtado emphasized the Pakistan-U.S. relationship and stated that the story of the Pakistani community in the U.S. is one of sacrifice, dignity, and resilience.
Senator Hurtado also appreciated the presence of Pakistan's Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh in the Senate and thanked him for his efforts in strengthening Pakistan-U.S. relations.
Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh praised Senator Melissa Hurtado and the Council of Pakistan for their efforts in presenting and getting the historic resolution passed unanimously in the state Senate.
The Ambassador reaffirmed his commitment to further strengthening Pakistan-U.S. relations and people-to-people ties.
He stated that the unanimous passing of this resolution by the California Senate on the occasion of Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day reflects the strength of our relationship, which goes beyond governments and is deeply rooted in the people of both countries.
