Maryam Nawaz will formally initiate the project’s implementation upon her return from Japan
LAHORE (Dunya News) - Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has decided to equip the Punjab Police with advanced infrared and ultrasonic technology, modeled on the Japanese police system.
Under this decision, the police will be equipped with technologically-driven systems for traffic management, accident control, and early weather-related warnings to the public. In the first phase, a pilot project will be launched in Lahore.
Maryam Nawaz will formally initiate the project’s implementation upon her return from Japan, where she visited the National Police Agency (NPA) headquarters in Tokyo and inspected various departments of the agency.
During a briefing, the chief minister was informed about the operations of Japan’s National Police Agency, which oversees the performance of the Imperial Guards. The briefing highlighted that all Japanese police departments are linked to the NPA, which also sets departmental policies. The National Public Safety Commission supervises the NPA.
It was further explained that the NPA provides guidance to other security departments during emergencies and natural disasters.
Maryam Nawaz praised the NPA system, stating that Japan’s law and order situation is exemplary and worth emulating. She emphasized that Punjab is modernizing its police force along professional lines.
She added that the Punjab Police have been given the freedom to operate professionally, and a new Crime Control Department (CCD) has been established to support the police and curb crime. The CCD has significantly improved the law and order situation in Punjab.
The Chief Minister further noted that since the establishment of the CCD, the crime rate in Punjab has dropped below 70% for the first time. She reiterated that ensuring peace and progress in the province is her mission.
