LAHORE (Dunya News) – In response to several train accidents in recent months, Pakistan Railways has mandated that all trains including passenger services like the Awam Express, as well as freight trains—must henceforth operate strictly under "Railway Work to Rules – Brake Powers." This requirement comes with strict enforcement procedures.

Technical engineering staff are now required to formally verify that the brake power of every coach and wagon is functioning at 100%.

If any train, coach, or wagon fails to meet this standard, it must be immediately detached and not dispatched. The Chief Operating Superintendent, Syeda Maryam Gilani, has issued an official circular enforcing these rules, and it has been distributed to all divisional superintendents and the technical branch.

All staff are to follow four key guidelines: before issuing a fitness certificate for any train, the braking materials of every coach and wagon must be fully updated, and brake power must be tested in advance of departure. These measures aim to protect passengers' lives, enhance rail travel safety, ensure timely operations, and uphold high standards in train operations.
