LAHORE (Dunya News) - Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed relevant authorities to remain on high alert in anticipation of potential stormy rains across the province.

She instructed the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), administration, police, and rescue services to take necessary preemptive measures. She issued orders for deputy commissioners and other relevant officials to stay active in the field.

The chief minister emphasized that deputy commissioners must ensure compliance with the guidelines issued by PDMA Punjab. She directed authorities to take essential measures in anticipation of possible cloudbursts in Upper Punjab.

Additionally, she ordered preemptive arrangements and proactive measures for protection against potential flash floods in the Koh-e-Sulaiman and riverine areas, with specific instructions for the districts of Murree, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal, and Koh-e-Sulaiman.

In view of safety concerns, the CM agreed to impose restrictions on tourist travel to Murree and adjoining areas, directing authorities to limit tourist movement due to risks of cloudbursts, landslides, and stormy rains.

Following her instructions, PDMA Punjab mobilized immediately and began arranging necessary resources. The PDMA directed Deputy Commissioners across Punjab to take precautionary measures in light of the expected unusual increase in river flows due to stormy rains.

On the chief minister's orders, boats, life jackets, and other equipment have been provided for the populace residing near waterways as she stressed the need to ensure the immediate evacuation of citizens living in riverbeds.

She also directed authorities to enforce a ban on bathing in rivers, canals, and streams due to the risk of flooding.

Furthermore, she ordered police patrolling along the banks of rivers and streams and appealed to parents to prevent their children from going near rivers and waterways.
