Pak-Iran leaders want to transform border from security zone to economic corridor

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and PML-N President Mian Nawaz Sharif met Iranian Ambassador Dr Raza Amiri Mughaddam at Jati Umra, Raiwand and agreed to transform the Pak-Iran border from a security zone to an economic corridor. 

They also discussed mutual interests, focusing on trade, cultural, economic, and social relations. 

The meeting reviewed potential cooperation in agriculture and livestock, with Iran agreeing to increase meat imports from Punjab from 40pc to 70pc. They also discussed enhancing mutual trade to $10 billion and strengthening cultural ties between the twin cities of Isfahan, Mashhad, and Lahore. 

Likewise, proposals to promote the Persian language in Punjab were considered.

The Iranian ambassador invited Maryam Nawaz and Nawaz Sharif to visit Iran.

Nawaz and Maryam expressed grief over the martyrdom of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi, recalling his personality.

Dr Mughaddam expressed gratitude for Pakistan's friendship and congratulated Maryam Nawaz on her first 100 days as chief minister. The Iranian ambassador also praised her people-friendly initiatives.
