ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Special Assistant to Prime Minister for Climate Change Romina Khursheed Alam has warned about three episodes of heatwave in May and June. 

During a press conference, Romina Alam alerted the public about the start of heatwave phases as Pakistan is grappling with climate change. 

She informed that nine districts of Punjab, 13 districts of Sindh and Balochistan’s four districts were engulfed with heatwaves. 

The PM’s special assistant shared the government’s efforts to mitigate heatwaves. She said the public was being made aware about the heatwave issue through various sources. 

She also highlighted the negative impacts of heatwave which include loss of crops and rapid glacier melting. 

She also stressed that people should avoid smoking near forests as heatwave increase the risk of fire. 

Romina Alam stated that the fire-fighters had extinguished the recent fire in the forests by taking immediate action. She stressed that precautionary measures were needed these days to avoid any such event.
