LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday announced that it would move court against the controversial defamation bill passed by the Punjab Assembly.
Speaking to media persons outside an anti-terrorism court, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan said the government was going to enact a black law.
Ayub said, "According to the Constitution, freedom of expression cannot be curbed. We will resist this law in the national and provincial assemblies."
He said whoever talked about Ayub Khan's martial law, ask him what Nawaz Sharif had done. Ayub said Babar Awan explained the whole law to court.
He said he was grateful to the court that dispensed justice. "I cannot travel across Pakistan in a day. These are all false cases," he said.
Law made to arrest journalists will not work: Babar Awan
Meanwhile, Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Babar Awan said the chief minister and law minister were committing contempt of court.
"The law made to arrest journalists will not work. We will approach court against this law." He said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf was standing with journalists.
The former law minister said, "The Dubai Leaks case should be opened immediately. The judiciary is duty-bound to protect people's rights."
It should be noted that the Punjab Assembly passed the Defamation Bill 2024 in haste on Monday. The opposition described the bill as black law and tore up copies in protest.
Journalists also staged walkout from the press gallery and protested against the controversial bill of the assembly while calling for nationwide protests.
