RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – Five years have passed since Pakistan’s resounding display of airspace prowess during the Operation Swift Retort, achieving a visible milestone for the nation.

The armed forces, on the fifth anniversary of 'Operation Swift Retort', have reaffirmed their commitment to retaliate with full force and unwavering resolve against any threat to the people of Pakistan and nation's sovereignty.

On this day in 2019, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) successfully downed two Indian aircraft that had intruded into Pakistani airspace. While one Indian pilot was detained by Pakistan, he was subsequently released as a gesture of goodwill and peace.

In a statement issued by the public relations department of the Pakistan Army, the significance of Feb 27, 2019 was underscored, highlighting the unwavering determination and professionalism of its forces.

The operation was triggered by India’s false allegations and incursion into Pakistani airspace following the Pulwama attack in India-occupied Kashmir.

In response, the Pakistan Air Force swiftly engaged the Indian aircraft and led to the successful downing of the jet and captured its pilot, Abhinandan Varthaman.

The Pakistan army’s conduct with Varthaman garnered international attention, with wide ranging praise for Pakistani tea sparking a social media frenzy under the hashtag “ Tea is Fantastic”.

Even five years later, the incident continue to resonate, serving as reminder of Pakistan’s resolve and the cost of aggression against the nation.

As Pakistan commemorates the fifth anniversary of the Operation Swift Retort, it stands as a testament to the nation’s defence capability and its commitment to maintaining regional stability.

The event serves as reminder to all the nations that Pakistan remains prepared to defend its sovereignty against any threat.
