KARACHI (APP) – President Dr Arif Alvi asserted on Saturday that the nation possesses the potential to lead the country towards prosperity and development.

Addressing the 31st Convocation of the University of Karachi, the president expressed his belief that the country could be rehabilitated within five to ten years.

He highlighted the soaring achievements in science and technology, stating that humanity was reaching new heights.

Congratulating the graduating students and scholars, the president drew attention to the alarming fact that approximately 20 million and 62 thousand children were out of school. He urged the elite segment of society to step forward and contribute to bringing these children into the educational system.

President Alvi stressed the importance of fostering an environment of moral and ethical thinking and values, emphasising that education should serve as the foundation for morality and ethics. He noted that parents, teachers, and the societal environment played crucial roles in promoting moral and ethical values.

Encouraging the graduating students to actively promote moral values, President Alvi also addressed the issue of Israeli brutalities in Gaza. He expressed concern that intellectual battles had become intertwined with western interests worldwide.

The president underscored the urgency of emphasising morality, as educated individuals were increasingly involved in acts of brutality.

He pointed out the challenges posed by the circulation of out-of-context video and audio clips on social media, and emphasised the necessity of acquiring effective communication skills to address these issues.

Earlier in the convocation, Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahmed and KU Vice-Chancellor Dr Khalid Iraqi also delivered addresses.

As the chancellor of public universities, President Alvi awarded medals to the graduating students and scholars.
