Says the verdict signifies intra-party elections
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Terming the Supreme Court verdict a historic judgment, PTI leader Akbar S Babar has said the apex court’s ruling will determine the new direction for democracy in the country.
Talking to the media outside the SC building, Akbar S Babar said they made great efforts for upholding their point of view and upright stand, adding political parties were the foundation of democracy and if the base of democracy was frail and weak, a solid and strong building could not be constructed.
He said the verdict highlighted the significance of intra-party elections, and the process of intra-party elections now would not stop, but move forward, adding all parties would have to go with intra-party elections, which was the basic right of the workers of political parties.
"When the detailed decision comes," he stated, "it will have far-reaching implications, not just for PTI, but for all political parties in this country.
It will set a precedent for free and fair intra-party elections, strengthening the very foundation of our democracy."
“This is a significant victory for us; we've been fighting for it for a long time,” remarked Babar.
He sees the decision as a pivotal moment that has the potential to set a positive example, especially in the realm of party elections.
According to him, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was expected to become a role model in the wake of this judicial pronouncement.
This is a big day for democracy in Pakistan. And it's a day PTI can be proud of, because we stood up for what is right. We didn't just fight for ourselves, we fought for the future of our nation, the PTI leader said.
