Dr Yasmin Rashid got elected president of PTI's Punjab chapter
PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - Barrister Gohar Ali Khan got elected unopposed chairman of the embattled Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Saturday.
Niazullah Niazi, chief election commissioner for PTI’s intra-party elections, told media that all the candidates were elected unopposed.
Omar Ayub Khan is secretary general of the party.
Meanwhile, Dr Yasmin Rashid got elected president of Punjab chapter of the party while Haleem Adil Sheikh becomes president of Sindh chapter.
Ali Amin Gandapur and Munir Ahmad Baloch are declared president of PTI’s KP and Balochistan chapters, respectively.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had annulled the PTI’s intra-party polls held in June last year while describing these as ‘highly objectionable’.

The party was given 20 days by the ECP to hold fresh elections to retain the election symbol of ‘cricket bat’.
According to some reports, there are rifts within the PTI as the old loyalists like Ali Muhammad Khan and Advocate Hamid Khan are perturbed over the nomination of a ‘newcomer’ as the party head.

Who is Barrister Gohar?
Barrister Gohar is a new entrant to the party who came into prominence during the recent legal battles of (now former) PTI chief in courts.
On May 9, Barrister Gohar was there with the former PTI chief in court when the latter was arrested by the law-enforcement agencies.
He is associated with the law chamber of PPP’s stalwart Aitzaz Ahsan and manages the Islamabad office of the law firm.
Hailing from Buner district of KP, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan started his legal career in the early 2000s.
He also contested for a National Assembly seat from Buner in 2008 elections on a PPP ticket but lost by a narrow margin.
He is an advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and appears in all high courts.
Barrister Gohar is a law graduate of Wolverhampton University, UK with an LLM from Washington School of Law, USA. He has been in active law practice with more than fifty reported judgements to his credit on subjects ranging from taxation, commercial, corporate, arbitration, banking and elections.
