ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has reiterated his demand to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP for an election date.

Speaking at a ceremony hosted by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) here on Monday, Bilawal stated that delaying the election was equivalent to denying the people their right to vote.

He demanded the ECP immediately announce the election date.

The former foreign minister expressed his gratitude for being invited to the golden jubilee celebrations of the 1973 Constitution.

He noted that the Supreme Court had consistently upheld the supremacy of the Constitution and played a pivotal role in standing up against dictators.

Bilawal emphasised that the constitution was the heart and soul of any state, highlighting that democracy safeguarded the constitution, while the constitution protected human rights.

He also pointed out that every prime minister of Pakistan had faced accountability before the Supreme Court.

Bilawal recalled the 30-year political struggle of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto for the restoration of the constitution, expressing regret that neither Benazir Bhutto nor her father, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, received justice.

Referring to the no-confidence motion against the former prime minister from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Bilawal said, "We [as part of the PDM alliance] aimed to restore democracy by dismantling a 'selected' regime, educate non-democratic parties about democracy, rebuild the confidence of the parliament and the people, and bring all institutions back to a neutral stance overnight."

He expressed that he wasn't disheartened, as he had learned valuable lessons.
