The petitioner prayed the court to order the president to announce a date for holding elections
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Lahore High Court (PHC) has been moved against delaying general elections in the country beyond 90 days.
The Judicial Activism Panel, which filed the petition, made the president, the Election Commission of Pakistan, the federal government and others party.
The petitioner has submitted that the constitution provided that general elections should be held within 90 days after dissolution of assemblies. There’s little time left after the dissolution of assemblies in August but the Election Commission has not made any arrangements to carry out its constitutional duty, the petitioner added.
It has been requested in the petition that the High Court order the Election Commission to hold polls within 90 days. The petitioner also prayed the court to order the president of Pakistan to announce a date for holding the elections.
