Sources say any new system is tested in by-polls prior to its deployment for general elections

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Technical glitches have been detected in the election management system designed to compile the results in the upcoming general elections, sources in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) said on Thursday.

Reportedly, the issue emerged while the operators were getting hands-on experience and technological know-how of the management system in an ongoing training session.

Sources said the election management system was experiencing certain glitches and a system overlaod problem.

It is worth noting that no pilot project has been undertaken using this management system before to check its deployment efficiency.

Sources argued that prior to its deployment for the general elections, any new system was tested in by-elections. They questioned how the ECP could gain confidence of political parties without conducting any pilot project using this election management system.

Ironically, a spokesperson for the ECP played down the issue of system glitches, saying that “there is no major problem in our system, everything is running pretty well”.

He however admitted that some glitches were identified during the training of the election management system that would be taken care of shortly.
