A black bear, three monkeys recovered from resident of Malakand district
Pakistan
Under KP law all wild animals are government property
MALAKAND (Web Desk) - Officials from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wildlife Department rescued four wild animals, including a black bear and three monkeys, from a house in the Malakand district on Saturday.
The KP Wildlife Department conducted a raid in the Batkhela area of the district, where they discovered an eight-month-old black bear cub and three baby monkeys.
During the raid, one individual was apprehended, and charges were brought against him under the wildlife laws of the province.
It was revealed that the animals were being kept with the intention of selling them later.
An official stated that the black bear will be relocated to the Peshawar Zoo, while the monkeys will be transferred to the Malakand Wildlife Safari Park.
The possession, display, and handling of wildlife by private individuals for awareness purposes are strictly prohibited by law in the province.
The Wildlife and Biodiversity (Protection, Preservation, Conservation, and Management) Act of 2015, implemented by the KP government, declares that all wild animals, regardless of their status in captivity or the wild, are considered government property within the province. Furthermore, it specifies that no person may own any wild animal, exotic or otherwise, whether dead or alive, or possess any specified wild animal products without a valid certificate or license.
Last month, a similar incident occurred when 14 monkeys were discovered on a bus bound for Karachi. Subsequently, the monkeys were handed over to the administration of Karachi Zoological Garden for appropriate care.
