The PPP leader says dragging politics towards personal enmity harms state
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - PPP Chairman and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Monday urged his father Asif Ali Zardari, and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif to take decisions that will make politics easier for the younger generation.
He said on Monday it seemed the opposition did not learn from the past, urging all political forces to engage in positive and constructive politics to maintain hope in the youth.
"Dragging politics to personal animosity harms the state and there is an urgent need for cooperation to resolve the issues affecting the nation," said Bilawal while addressing the National Assembly session.
The PPP chairman said, “Perhaps this will be the last session of the National Assembly mentioning that efforts should be made to move things towards reconciliation as the polls are near."
He said that old Charter of Democracy should be followed, not the new one while mentioning that only through following the clear rules of game, the country would make progress.
The foreign minister stressed that the journey from the opposition to the government would be remembered mentioning that the PPP always presented its point of view in the assembly and added that even during the PTI period, the PPP protested by staying in the democratic circle.
He said that the work of the opposition was to highlight the wrong policies of the government stressing that the PTI’s government did not care about democracy, parliament and its workers and it crossed the redline which no one has done in history.
Bilawal said all the political forces and institutions should either go for a new charter of democracy or sit together under the previous one to engage in a dialogue. He said the sole objective of dialogue should be framing the rules of game and code of conduct to do politics in the country.
He said all the institutions also need to honour the domains of one another and refrain from trespassing the sphere of others.
The foreign minister asked the political parties of the country whether they would continue with the rhetoric of rigging, allegations and counter allegations in the elections. He said we should come out of this mindset and play our respective role in strengthening politics and democracy in the country.
Bilawal said the coalition parties, for the first time in the history of Pakistan, ousted a selected Prime Minister in a democratic way through the power vote. He said we managed to dislodge the Prime Minister through no-confidence motion instead of any court orders.
He, however, said it is unfortunate that we are facing an opposition, which is far away from democratic and political norms. He said the opposition crossed the country's redlines for the first time in Pakistan’s history by attacking the Jinnah House and military installations. He said it seems that the opposition is not ready to learn lessons from his mistakes.
Eight bills passed
The National Assembly on Monday passed eight bills. These include; “The Federal Prosecution Service Bill, 2023”, “The Official Secrets (Amendment) Bill, 2023”, “The Pakistan International Airline Corporation (Conversion) (Amendment) Bill, 2023”, “The National Commission for Minorities Bill, 2023”, “The Higher Education Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2023”, “The Price Control and Prevention of Profiteering and Hoarding (Amendment) Bill 2023”, “The Federal Public Service Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2023”, and “The Federal Urdu University of Arts, Sciences and Technology, Islamabad (Amendment) Bill, 2023.”
