AML chief says will prefer a dignified death to betraying friends, party

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) - Former interior minister and Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said on Friday he would neither lay down arms nor hold a press conference.

In a video message, the former interior minister said he was making that video in a state of immense grief. He said the mother of Rashid Shafique passed away the other day. He deplored that two raids were conducted on his residence and two of his servants were taken away by law-enforcement agencies.

Rashid said seven bogus cases were registered against him but he had already secured bail in all these cases.

He asked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to inflict cruelty on others as much as he could himself bear. He said he belonged to a noble family. He said he would stand by his friends and party like a rock. He added that he would remain loyal to them till his death.

Rashid said he would never hold a press conference. He said he would not yield to the pressure and if ever he held a press conference at all, it would be a blot on his name.

The AML head said he would prefer a dignified death to disrespect and betraying friends and party.

“I have my own party. I contest election on my party’s electoral symbol pen and inkpot. I supported army, martyrs and Mujahideen throughout my life. Is it justified that I cannot partake in last rituals of my close relative?” bemoaned Rashid.

He added that from Aug 5 (Saturday) to Aug 13 till 10pm, he would issue a tweet and a video message on a daily basis.
