FO spokesperson said we expect the Swedish authorities to take necessary measures to stop such acts.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Pakistan on Thursday condemned in the “strongest possible terms” yet another Islamophobic act of public desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden.

“Permission to carry out premeditated and provocative acts of religious hatred cannot be justified under the guise of freedom of expression, opinion and protest,” the Foreign Office spokesperson said in a statement.

The spokesperson said that international law categorically obliged states to prevent and prohibit deliberate incitement to hatred, discrimination and violence on the basis of religion or belief.

The disturbing recurrence of such Islamophobic incidents, which have hurt the sentiments of over 2 billion Muslims worldwide, is both legally and morally reprehensible.

The spokesperson reiterated Pakistan’s call on the international community to unequivocally condemn these Islamophobic acts, isolate those who stoke religious hatred, build deterrence and promote mutual respect, tolerance and harmony among religions, faiths and cultures.

“We expect the Swedish authorities to take all measures necessary to stop such acts of hatred and incitement. Pakistan’s concerns about the latest incident are being conveyed to the Swedish authorities,” the FO spokesperson added.

PM SHEHBAZ CONDEMNS REPITITION OF DESECRATION

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also strongly condemned the desecration of Holy Quran in Sweden.

In a statement on Friday, he said a joint strategy will be formulated from the platform of OIC to counter such heinous acts.He stressed that the OIC has to play a historic role in expressing the sentiments of Muslim Ummah and stopping such evil acts.

The Prime Minister said that a campaign will be initiated to get reversed the decision of allowing the desecration of divine books Torah, Bible and Holy Quran. The desecration of sacred books, persons and rituals is not freedom of expression but to constantly torment the world.

He said the continuity of these acts reflects that it is part of a political and satanic agenda. He said the entire world of Islam and Christianity must stop this conspiracy together.

Shehbaz Sharif said the decision to allow the desecration will encouraged mischievous factions, and the act of promoting hatred is prohibited by international law.

The Prime Minister said these attitudes of religious incitement, provocation, terrorism and violence are fatal to world peace. These behaviours are highly abhorrent and condemnable both legally and morally.

Shehbaz Sharif further said we should not let a handful of Satanic characters undermine our shared values of peace, tolerance, and pluralism.
