"I would like to congratulate Murtaza Wahab and Salman Abdullah for taking oath as mayor and deputy mayor, respectively," Mr Bhutto-Zardari said on this occasion.

Mr Bhutto-Zardari, flanked by the newly-elected mayor and deputy mayor, emphasised the sacrifices rendered by the PPP, saying, "The PPP workers have rendered great sacrifices. For decades, the PPP had to face threats from hatred and fanaticism".

He said PPP's victory in the mayoral race was dedicated to the martyrs.

He took a swipe at the opposition, saying: "We will respond to our critics through our performance."

In addition to advising the JI to avoid joining hands with the party that attacked the military installations, Mr Bhuto-Zardari added the JI should cooperate with other political parties.

He thought that Karachi's issues were in line with the centre.

"The PPP was once stopped from picking up its own mayor," he added.

Mr Bhutto-Zardari made it clear that upon his return to the country, former prime president Asif Ali Zardari will visit Lahore once more.

Speaking about the PPP's relationships with the PML-N, Mr Bhutto-Zardari asserted that there were no differences between the two parties, adding only difference could take place between the two parties due to the different policy.

In reference to the Greek boat tragedy, "Mr Bhutto-Zardari said the incident is quite deplorable."
