PM Shehbaz reiterates desire for peace in Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday reiterated Pakistan s desire for a peaceful Afghanistan and said it would continue to extend all possible support to the people of the neigbouring country.

The premier expressed his views at a meeting with Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar, who recently returned Pakistan after holding political discussions with leaders of Afghan Taliban in Kabul.

PM Shehbaz underscored that the international community should play its role to improve the situation in Afghanistan.

Earlier this week, Ms Khar visited Kabul where she held a meeting with Afghan government’s interim Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi in Kabul.

A range of bilateral issues of common interest including cooperation in education, health, trade and investment, regional connectivity, people-to-people contacts and socio-economic projects were discussed in the meeting.

She also held a meeting with Afghan Commerce Minister Hajji Nooruddin Azizi to discuss bilateral trade and economic relations between the neighbouring countries.

The Pakistani minister’s visit was also seen important as it came at a time when a banned militant group announced an end to the ceasefire with the Pakistan government.
