Justice Jawad Hassan talks about climate justice at Indus Conclave

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Lahore High Court (LHC) justice Jawad Hassan addressed the participants at the Indus Conclave presented by the Punjab group over the climate justice issue.

Mr Justice Jawad Hassan is a sitting judge of the Lahore High Court with expertise in public and private international law. Justice Jawad Hassan has been actively involved in legislative and judicial reforms for child labour, domestic workers, and environmental rights. He was also one of the speakers at the Asia-Pacific Judicial Colloquium, organised for the capacity building of judges to advance environmental rights.

Addressin  the event, Justice Jawad, while reacting to his judgments over climate change, stated that "Climate change directly impacts the lives of the people, while on the other hand, Quran and Sunnah oblige us to save the lives of the people by taking all possible measures."

"Pakistan’s constitution also categorically states that every citizen shall have the fundamental right to life subject to law," he added.

While the Supreme Court expanded the term "life" by saying that everyone has the right to a healthy, clean and pollution-free environment, he said.

Justice Jawad further said that court’s judgments have strong impact on country’s each issue because judiciary represents as a key pillar of the state that’s why he and other judges raised the climate change issues to play their role to save ordinary masses lives.
