US thanks Pakistan for hosting key OIC summit on Afghanistan

LAHORE (Dunya News) - The United States (US) thanked Pakistan on Wednesday for hosting a key session of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in which envoys from 57 Islamic nations participated.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, in his Twitter message, lauded Pakistan for its efforts in hosting a vital foreign ministers summit on Afghanistan.
"The OIC Extraordinary Session on Afghanistan is a prime example of our collective determination and action to help those most in need. We thank Pakistan for hosting this vital meeting and inviting the global community to continue cooperating to support the Afghan people," US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a tweet.

Pakistan hosted 17th extraordinary session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation s (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers on December 19, at the Parliament House in Islamabad.
It is to be noted that Pakistan has hosted this kind of session of OIC s Council of Foreign Ministers after 40 years. Before this, Pakistan hosted this session in 1980.
The key session was convened by Saudi Arabia as OIC chair and being hosted by Pakistan, 70 delegates participated in the historic session which discussed the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.
At the inaugural session, the Prime Minister Imran Khan made a keynote address to highlight the situation and drew world s attention towards the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan.
In his address, Imran Khan said that no country is facing a situation like Afghanistan. Pakistan has suffered the most due to the situation in Afghanistan, where about 80,000 people were killed as a result of terrorism. If the world does not take action right now, it will be the greatest human tragedy ever created.
In the key session of OIC, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the chair of the Extraordinary Session, Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia Prince Faisal Bin Farhan Al-Saud, the OIC Summit Chair and Secretary General of the OIC Hissein Brahim Taha also addressed.
