Death toll of the Musa Lane Building collapse reached 25 as another corpse was recovered.

The rescue workers have found another body from the debris of the collapsed building in Musa Lane area of Karachi. The clearing work has been 50 percent completed. The rescue workers apprehended 10 more people could be trapped in the rubble. Initiated by area people through their own resources, the rescue operation was marred by the involvement of several agencies and charities organisations, one after another. Now with a considerable time lost, the slow operation to rescue people trapped under the rubble of the collapsed five-storey building seems to be heading nowhere. The affected families and area people finally lost the patience and staged a demonstration on Shah Abdul Lateef Bhitai Road of Musa Lane, where Qasr-i-Ruqayya came down on Thursday, to protest against the snail-paced efforts. But the authorities had their own argument to justify their course of action. “The impact of the five-storey building collapse left the abutting structures, which have not been built on very strong foundations, even weaker and more vulnerable. So we can’t move fast or remove the rubble in a flash with the use of heavy machinery,” said Alam.
