World should play role for economic assistance to Afghanistan
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Foreign Office Spokesperson Asim Iftikhar has said that Pakistan wants the world to play a role in providing economic assistance to Afghanistan.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Asim Iftikhar Ahmed while talking to reporters said that an extraordinary meeting of OIC Foreign Ministers will be held on December 19 in Islamabad. P5 countries have also been specially invited to the meeting while delegates from 57 countries are expected to attend.
Asim Iftikhar said talks were underway to invite the Taliban, adding that it is yet to be decided that in what capacity the Taliban would be invited, but that the presence of Taliban government representatives was also necessary.
The spokesperson went on to say that invitations have been sent for the meeting and we want Afghanistan to be represented at the Council of Foreign Ministers. “It is the responsibility of other countries, including Pakistan, to play a role in bringing peace to Afghanistan,” he added.
He said, “The Council of Foreign Ministers would also discuss the issue of Afghan refugees in Pakistan, adding that practical steps would be taken in this extraordinary meeting which would benefit Afghanistan.”
