Jurisdiction to invoke suo motu lies only with CJP: SC

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The larger bench of the Supreme Court while determining the parameters of suo motu, has ruled that the discretion to invoke suo motu lies solely with the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP).

The bench maintained that the exercise of power also requires the approval of the Chief Justice. The petition filed on August 20 will be placed before the Chief Justice. The Supreme Court remarked that a detailed decision in this case will be issued later.

A five-member bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Omar Bandial delivered the verdict. The bench also included Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan, Justice Muneeb Akhtar, Justice Qazi Amin and Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar.
