Corona Task Force meets to decide over imposing lockdown in Karachi
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Sindh government on Friday has imposed lockdown in Karachi from July 1 to August 8 in the wake of preventing further spread of coronavirus infection.
During the meeting of Corona Task Force headed by Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah, it was decided to close shops, markets and inter-city transport while directives have also been issued to check the vaccination card of those roaming on roads and streets.
The participants also decided to close government offices from next week and not to provide salaries to non-vaccinated employees after August 31. Medical stores will remain open across the city.
The members also deliberated upon taking assistance of law enforcement agencies for the implementation of coronavirus standard operating procedures (SOPs).
On the other hand, Pakistan has reported 86 deaths in the last 24 hours by novel coronavirus as the number of positive cases has surged to 1,024,861. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 23,295.
According to the latest figures issued by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), 4,537 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.
Punjab remains the worst-hit province in terms of deaths followed by Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Till now 11019 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab, 5,947 in Sindh, 4,444 in KP, 799 in Islamabad, 622 in Azad Kashmir, 327 in Balochistan, and 137 in GB.
Furthermore, 377,231 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 355,483 in Punjab, 143,213 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 86,945 in Islamabad, 30,162 in Balochistan, 23,819 in Azad Kashmir and 8,008 in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Pakistan has so far conducted 15,936,674 coronavirus tests and 58,203 in the last 24 hours. 938,843 patients have recovered in the country whereas 3,117 patients are in critical condition.
