Media organizations reject Pakistan Media Development Authority Ordinance

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Representatives of media organizations have rejected the Pakistan Media Development Authority Ordinance. A joint meeting on Tuesday decided to collectively oppose the ordinance.

According to details, the joint meeting of representatives of media organizations was held in Islamabad in which officials of PBA, APNS and other organizations participated. The statement of the meeting said that the purpose of the proposed ordinance is to control the freedom of the media.

The ordinance will strengthen the federal government’s control over the media, the joint statement said. The proposed ordinance is an extension of Ayub Khan’s Press and Publications Ordinance. Such an ordinance has no place in a free and democratic society.

The meeting decided to jointly resist the ordinance and to set up a Joint Action Committee comprising PBA, APNS, CPNE, PFUJ and AEMED.
