Pakistan values relations with Iraq: FM Qureshi

BAGHDAD (Dunya News) – Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Saturday said that Pakistan greatly values its relations with Iraq.

Talking to his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein in Baghdad today (Saturday), he said the fraternal relations between the two countries are deep rooted in common history, religion and cultural values.

The foreign minister stressed there are vast opportunities of cooperation between the two countries in the areas of trade, investment, education, technology and infrastructure development.

He said both Pakistan and Iraq can share their experiences in the fight against terrorism.

Qureshi said resolution of Palestine dispute is imperative for peace in Middle East and Jammu and Kashmir dispute for peace in South Asia.

The two foreign ministers agreed to enhance mutual cooperation at the international forums including the United Nations and the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation.

They also emphasized the need for collective efforts at the international level to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Later addressing a joint news conference along with the Iraqi Foreign Minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan wants peace in the South Asian region as it is important to lift the people out of poverty.

He said the Afghan peace process must go forward.

The Foreign Minister said during talks with the Iraqi counterpart, he apprised him of the role played by Pakistan to facilitate the peace process.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan has taking a number of steps to facilitate Zaireen visiting Iraq.
