PM terms Bashir Memon's allegations as 'false and baseless'

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Imran Khan has termed all the allegations of former Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Bashir Memon as false and baseless.

Talking to senior journalists in Islamabad, the Prime Minister said that whatever Bashir Memon had alleged was a lie. “I did not ask him to file cases against Justice Qazi Faez Issa, Maryam Nawaz or anyone else”, he said.

“It was not Bashir Memon’s job to file references, why would I give such an order”, asked Imran Khan.

The Prime Minister said that Bashir Memon used to give briefings on Omni Group’s JIT. He had asked Memon to investigate the iqama of Khawaja Asif, which was decided in the meeting of the federal cabinet. “Before that I did not even know the former DG FIA”, he added.

Talking about the Jahangir Tareen issue, Imran Khan said that Dr Rizwan has not been removed from his post and Abu Bakr Khudabakhsh would work with him. He reiterated that there will be justice in the case of Jahangir Tareen.

On Wednesday, the former FIA DG had leveled a string of serious allegations against Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The former head of FIA had alleged that Imran Khan wanted PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz to be tried for terrorism and PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif to be arrested.

He said that the Prime Minister used to say that ANP chief Asfandyar Wali had a property in Malaysia while he also talked about the arrest of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Rana Sanaullah and Ahsan Iqbal.

The former DG FIA had challenged Prime Minister Imran Khan to write a letter to the Supreme Court asking for an inquiry into the allegations, adding that he was ready to face the PM in court.
