PM chairs meeting of National Coordination Committee on Covid-19

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Imran Khan is presiding over a meeting of the National Coordination Committee (NCC) on Covid-19 today (Friday).

Chief ministers and chief secretaries of all four provinces are also attending the meeting to review the countrywide coronavirus situation.

According to sources, strict decisions are likely to be made during the meeting as the coronavirus situation is worsening day-by-day across the country.

On the other hand, Pakistan has reported 144 deaths in the last 24 hours by novel coronavirus as the number of positive cases has surged to 784,108. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 16,842.

According to the latest figures by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), 5,870 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

Punjab remains the worst-hit province by the pandemic both in terms of cases as well as deaths followed by Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

Till now 282,469 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Punjab, 275,815 in Sindh, 110,875 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 21,365 in Balochistan, 72,150 in Islamabad, 16,193 in Azad Kashmir and 5,241 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Furthermore, 7,799 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab, 4,576 in Sindh, 3,029 in KP, 227 in Balochistan, 652 in Islamabad, 455 in Azad Kashmir and 104 in GB.

Pakistan has so far conducted 11,431,241 coronavirus tests and 53,818 in the last 24 hours. 682,290 coronavirus patients have recovered in the country whereas 4,652 patients are in critical condition.
