Fate of educational institutions to be decided on April 6: Shafqat
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood on Sunday has told that education and health ministers will meet at National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) on April 6 to decide whether to open or further close the educational institutions.
In a post o social-networking website Twitter, the minister said, “The exam situation will also be discussed in NCOC meeting.” Whatever is decided, it will be a collective decision of the country’s health and education authorities and NCOC, he added.
Earlier on March 24, Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mehmood had announced to keep all educational institutions in nine districts of Punjab closed till April 11 as third wave of coronavirus grips Pakistan especially Punjab.
Talking to media persons after a meeting of NCOC, he emphasized that that closure is for all form of educational institutions including universities as well as academies.
The announcement was for Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Multan, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Sargodha, and Sheikhupura.
On the other hand, Pakistan has reported 81 deaths in the last 24 hours by novel coronavirus as the number of positive cases has surged to 687,908 today. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 14,778.
According to the latest figures by the NCOC 5,020 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.
Punjab remains the worst-hit province in terms of deaths followed by Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Till now 6,572 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab 4,509 in Sindh, 2,440 in KP, 579 in Islamabad, 364 in Azad Kashmir, 211 in Balochistan, and 103 in GB.
Furthermore, 266,378 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 231,073 in Punjab, 91,439 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 60,911 in Islamabad, 19,734 in Balochistan, 13,321 in Azad Kashmir and 5,052 in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Pakistan has so far conducted 10,403,335 coronavirus tests and 55,605 in the last 24 hours. 613,058 coronavirus patients have recovered in the country whereas 3,568 patients are in critical condition.
