PDM in tatters as long march postponed indefinitely

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The anti-government opposition alliance Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has announced that its long march, previously scheduled to take place on March 26, has been postponed.

The announcement was made by PDM head Maulana Fazlur Rehman following today’s apex meeting of the alliance in Islamabad. He was accompanied by PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz, PPP Senator Yousaf Raza Gillani and other PDM leaders.

Fazlur Rehman said that apart from Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), all parties have agreed on giving resignations from assemblies. He said that PPP has sought more time for consultation on the issue. Therefore, PDM’s long march on March 26 should be considered postponed. With that announcement, Fazlur Rehman stormed off the dais and left the press conference.

Following his abrupt exit, Maryam Nawaz took the microphone and addressed the press conference.

Maryam said that during the meeting, Asif Zardari requested Mian Nawaz Sharif to come back to Pakistan and join the movement, to which she said that Nawaz Sharif has faced extremely adverse circumstances in jail, even suffering a heart attack during imprisonment.

“We want living leaders, not their dead bodies. No one has the right to call back Nawaz Sharif”, she said.

Maryam said that Pakistan needs Nawaz Sharif, it has already lost leaders and suffered much harm as a result. PML-N is united under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif, if anyone wants to talk to him, they have to talk to her first.

"We cannot hand over Mian Nawaz Sharif to these killers," she said.
