Pakistan has no law to bring back assets from abroad: Shabbar Zaidi

KARACHI (Dunya News) - Former Chairman of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Shabbar Zaidi has said that there is no law in Pakistan which could aid in bringing back stolen wealth from abroad. He stressed that the real question is how $120 billion left the country.

He made this statement during an interview with Dunya News program "Dunya Kamran Khan Kay Saath".

Shabbar Zaidi said that former President Pervez Musharraf came under political pressure and brought Foreign Currency Account Protection Law, which is not in any book.

Previously, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) was not taking notice of money flying out of or coming into the country, he said.

The former Chairman FBR said that Hawala has been eliminated in India but in Pakistan, no decision has been taken regarding the practice till date. “Pakistan had even allowed TTs”, he added.

He also said that some decisions given by the Supreme Court took the country backwards. “My hands are tied before the seal of the Supreme Court”, he said.
