Umar Sheikh removed as Lahore CCPO
Ghulam Mahmood Dogar has been appointed as the new Lahore CCPO.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Umar Sheikh has on Friday been removed with immediate effect as the Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) after increase in crime rate in the provincial capital.
According to details, Ghulam Mehmood Dogar has been appointed as the new Lahore CCPO after being interviewed at the Chief Minister’s Office. Dogar earlier served as Faisalabad RPO and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Technical Procurement.

Former Lahore CCPO Umar Sheikh, a controversial officer who faced heavy criticism for his inappropriate remarks regarding a rape victim, has been appointed as Deputy Commandant of the Punjab Constabulary, Farooqabad against a vacant post.
Row with Punjab IGP
Umar Sheikh became prominent after getting involved in a disputed with the then Punjab IGP Shoaib Dastagir. Inam Ghani replaced Shoaib Dastagir on September 9, 2019 following the clash.
Irresponsible Statement
After a woman was robbed of her belongings and raped in front of her children on motorway, Umar Sheikh had said, “The affected woman departed after midnight and did not take a safe route, that too without adequate fuel.”
He later had to apologize for his irresponsible statement. “I apologize to the victim and all other classes who were hurt by my remarks. I had no intention to give any wrong impression,” said Umar Sheikh.
‘Arrest the CIA SP’
Umar Sheikh was once again in news when he ordered to arrest Crimes Investigation Agency (CIA) SP Asim Iftikhar after a verbal clash. He had summoned Asim Iftikhar at the safe city office for not taking him into confidence in the matter pertaining to the arrest of Abid Malhi – prime suspect of the motorway rape case.
The erstwhile CCPO exchanged heated words with Asim Iftikhar as he arrived late and ordered the officials to arrest him. The furious CIA SP left the meeting over the directive of his detainment.
Abusing a Woman
An alleged audio recording Umar Sheikh had also come to light, in which he could be heard verbally abusing a female complainant. In the audio, Umar Sheikh hurled abuses at the woman and forbade her from calling him again. The former CCPO had called the leaked audio as another conspiracy against him.
