Closure of educational institutions may be extended: Punjab Education Minister

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Provincial Education Minister Murad Raas has said that the Punjab government may extend the closure of educational institutions in view of the increasing number of coronavirus cases in the country.

The minister said this while addressing the inauguration of online retirement system for teachers at the Quaid-e-Azam Academy for Educational Development. He said that with the retirement system, there would be no need to pay hefty bribes and teachers would receive their pensions unhindered at home. Efforts are also being made to issue pension checks to teachers online, he added.

Replying to a question by the media, Murad Raas said that due to the alarming situation of coronavirus in the country, schools could be kept closed for longer. Moreover, a joint meeting of all education ministers taking place on January 4 will decide whether schools closure should be extended or not.

Murad Raas said that 31,000 schools were registered in a month through online registration of private schools. He said that the private schools ordinance had been prepared and it would come into force after the cabinet’s approval.

Highlighting his ministry’s two-and-a-half year performance, Murad Raas said that projects such as Insaaf Schools Academy, online training of teachers, library books for ECE rooms and various others have been completed.
