ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The government s Ehsaas program is delivering positive change for the people of Pakistan and has laid the foundations to become a global model for reducing poverty in the country.

This was stated by Ex-Chief Advisor on Delivery to former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Sir Michael Barber in a report titled "The Ehsaas Programme: Shifting from Politics of Patronage to Politics of Performance," published by Delivery Associates, a globally respected firm working with governments across the world to achieve measurable developmental impact.

Addressing a virtual news conference in Islamabad on Thursday, Sir Michael Barber said the mission of the Ehsaas is an important program for Pakistan in fighting against poverty which is contributing in protecting the most vulnerable segment of the society.

He said the Ehsaas team under the strong leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan and supervision of Dr Sania Nishtar has made huge progress in just one year.

Sir Michael Barber said the reforms and structural changes pioneered by the team resulted in the rapid delivery of Ehsaas Emergency Cash to 12 million households against the challenging and unprecedented backdrop of COVID-19.

He said the government of Pakistan is also dealing with the global pandemic adopting effective measures and this flagship program is an example for the rest of world in dealing with COVID-19.

He said this comprehensive program will be a major victory for the people of Pakistan and could become a globally leading example to combat poverty.

Speaking on the occasion, Special Assistant on Poverty Alleviation Dr. Sania Nisther said the ‘Ehsas Programe Report’ will help Pakistan reflect on the achievements of the program in its first year and pave the way for continued success.

She expressed hope that the Ehsaas can eventually be a model for the world.

She said that Ehsaas Centers will be established across the country next year where information and facilities will be provided to the masses through one window operation.

She also appreciated the role of PTV and Radio Pakistan and other media organizations in creating awareness among the people about Ehsaas.

Information Minister Senator Shibli Faraz, who was also present on the occasion, thanked Sir Michael Barber for his views about this flagship program.
